Latter-Day Saints Coalition Against Torture Call To Action

  • Our understanding of our faith compels us to publicly denounce the practice of torture as being a repudiation of the Gospel as taught by Jesus Christ. We personally reject and refuse to support any political leader that would in any manner support what we consider crimes against the law and, most importantly, crimes against humanity such as "water boarding" and any other forms of torture used against those in custody of the United States prison systems whether domestic or foreign.

  • We call for an independent prosecutor to investigate if the President Bush Administration is in violation of national law and the Geneva Conventions in advocating and conducting torture.

  • We demand that the current or future President issue an Executive Order that will set a national standard for interrogation techniques of prisoners in United States custody that follows within the guide lines US Army Field Manual. The United States government will not transfer prisoners to other countries that conduct torture or other forms of cruelty.

Please visit National Religious Coalition Against Torture and sign their Statement of Conscience against torture.
